Decision of the Zoning Board of Appeals

At its November 22, 2022 meeting the Zoning Board of Appeals voted to: 1. Close the public hearing and approve, with conditions, the request for a 15’ variance from Section 4.4 of the Middlefield Zoning Regulations to permit the construction of a second bay on the existing garage in the easterly side yard setback of the 59 Laurel Brook Road property, consistent with the application presented. Christmas Tree Lighting – Sunday, Dec. 4th

Join us on Sunday, December 4th for a magical community event! We will gather on the town green at 5:30 to begin our ceremony with music led by the CRHS band. Our wonderful librarians will also host guests at the Library before the event begins. At 6:00 Santa will arrive to help us light up the tree! Santa will stick around from 6:00-6:30 to hear Christmas Wishes and take pictures. The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Dept will provide the crowd with warm beverages and holiday refreshments after Santa arrives.

Installation of Speed Hump on Lake Road

Over the summer, the Middlefield Board of Selectmen discussed and voted in favor of installing a speed hump on Lake Rd.  Lake Rd is narrow, with homes along the road, and no sidewalks.  It is the only means of access and egress to the neighborhoods on the west side of Beseck Lake creating high traffic volumes.  Historically, few have traveled at or below the posted 20 MPH speed limit.  A speed hump will help serve as a reminder to maintain a safe speed through that  neighborhood. RAINFALL DURING THE PAST WEEK CONTINUES TO PROVIDE SOME RELEIF FROM THE DROUGHT CONDITIONS IN CONNECTICUT…NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION AND NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 7 DAYS… Total rainfall for the past 7 days has generally ranged from almost no rain in the NW hills up to 1.5” along the southeast coast. The U.S. Drought Monitor has further eroded the area covered by the D2 and D1 designations. A large area of northeastern and some of central Connecticut is now in the D0 designation.
