Senior Lunch Programs & Meals on Wheels

Community Renewal Team's Elderly Nutrition Program

The Middlefield Senior Center participates with The Community Renewal Team's (CRT) Elderly Nutrition Program to provide seniors, particularly those with low incomes, nutritionally balanced meals, delivered to the home (Meals on Wheels) or served in the Senior Center which is located in the Community Center at 405 Main Street, Middlefield, CT.

All of the meals for CRT's Elderly Nutrition Program are prepared fresh daily (never frozen!) - Monday through Friday in our state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, which is capable of producing thousands of meals per day, both for our Meals on Wheels program and for the lunches served at our community cafés for seniors.

Each meal is designed by a Registered Dietician to provide the appropriate complements of protein, vitamins and other nutrients. Every meal has one-third of the daily nutritional needs of an older adult.

Community Cafe

The town of Middlefield is pleased to offer the Senior Meal program, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am-1 pm. Located in the Middlefield Community Center, lunch is served by volunteers who take great pride in serving our guests. Seniors have the opportunity to socialize with other members of the community while enjoying a hot lunch.

Reservations are required 24-hours in advance by calling 860-349-7121. A $2.50 donation is suggested to help cover the cost of the meals, however, no one is denied a meal if they are unable to pay.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program run by CRT provides hot, nutritious meals - always prepared fresh, never frozen - to home-bound seniors throughout both Hartford County and Middlesex County, using CRT's fleet of customized delivery vehicles.

CRT's Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious meals and daily visits to hundreds of Connecticut seniors. The food and personal contact contribute to the overall well-being of homebound elders and allows them to remain in their own homes…where they want to be. Meals on Wheels support health, independence, dignity and security. If staff or volunteers notice anything out of the ordinary - or if the client doesn't answer the doorbell- the emergency contact is notified.

Individuals may sign up to have meals delivered every weekday, and up to two meals per day. There is a hot meal (lunch), and a cold meal, such as a sandwich (for dinner). Additionally, meals for weekends are delivered on Thursdays and Fridays.

The program serves men and women 60 years of age and over, and their spouses or caregivers, regardless of age. Referral can be made by a doctor or qualified health professional. If the referral comes else ware staff from the Elderly Nutrition Program must assess that they are homebound, and are in need of home-delivered meals.

To enroll in CRT's Meals on Wheels program, please call 860-560-5848 to enroll - the intake process should only take about 48 hours. A $2.50 donation is requested to help cover the cost of the meals, however, no one is denied a meal if they are unable to pay.
