The Health Department for the Town of Middlefield is now part of the South Central Health District.
The Health District has the responsibility to protect public health through enforcement and compliance with the State of Connecticut Public Health Code, and education in various areas of public health.
Health permits are required for new septic and to repair septic systems, building additions, pools, decks, wells, etc. Soil testing is required for all septic systems and building additions.
The Health District also permits and inspects all food service establishments and food vendors. Other responsibilities include managing Town-owned public water systems, water testing, lead paint investigations, daycare facility inspections, complaint investigations, etc.
